Yup... My question is about insurance... not about ownership...

Well, Ronan and Ecik is a owner of Singapore Bikes.

It is true, making a loan is impossible because you are involving Singapore Bank which you will be needing a Singapore License. So pay by cash, simple as that.

Definitely not sumthg new. old issue.

when u buy a sg reg bike, u'll need:

1. Cash - for purchase. no instalments

2. Original IC - to facilitate name transfer at LTA. LTA will require to sight original IC upon transfer.

3. An address in SG - now, this is for LTA & insurance. they will require sg address for formality, mailing & in case of accidents & laying up (if u want to claim back insurance premium if bike is not in running cond), they will come over and inspect the bike there. if accidents, they will come to workshop anywhere. even 3rd parties policy will cover the bike in Singapore, Batam, Peninsular Malaysia & 50km across Malaysian Border up north (Thailand).

Now, for those who ask about the insurance, the policy is written under the buyer's name, whether u're a singaporean or a malaysian. I have my policy if anybody want to view it.

so, when u buy a sg bike, the bike is under yr name & the insurance policy is under yr name too.

Why is that so? Because singapore is just a small country. at one time, there are too many vehicles in singapore. how to dispose all of those old vehicles? sell to malaysia or go to scrap. this is one of the govmt's way to get them out of the country without wasting too much money.

Thanx for the info... but how about the driving license, conversion etcs?
I heard you need to have international license for insurance, furthermore within six months you have to convert your international license to sg license... care to ellaborate?

ok, now... 1st, ask yrself whether will u be riding in sg or not? or u just buy the bike to ride in msia?

if you u do:
no need to have sg license if u are only riding in sg once in a while. but if frequent, u will need to have a sg license. so, if u want to ride in sg, u'll have to take up sg driving license. our international license also not recognised.

if not:
as long as u have a valid msian driving license, it is sufficient. JPJ does not restrict msian to ride/drive sg vehicles, unlike LTA.

kenapa motor nama kita, insurans nama orang lain?

ni misconception ni ...

dalam insurance, letak nama kita juga sebagai owner. tapi, kita letak subrider nama agen yg tukang bawak motor tu pegi inspection kat LTA tu ........ tu la purpose letak subrider nama singaporean. untuk menyenangkan kita tak payah masuk sg utk pegi inspection....

samada kita bawak atau subrider bawak, eksiden atau stolen, of course la kita entitle utk claim.

- Kalau kita nak bawak motor sendiri masuk sg utk inspection, we have to abide to their rules. as i said, LTA
does not recognise our license. so, u'll have to have sg driving license.

Tapi, what i normally do is, i put my agent's name as subrider in my policy & he'll take my bike in JB and
bring it to sg for inspection & insurance & road tax renewal.

Tapi kena la make sure tahu pasal COE, roadtax, inspection dan insurance dulu.
Selalunya motor kalo murah cam ni COE dah nak kena renew sendiri.
